Our lineages

No Czechoslovakian wolfdogs, Saarloos wolfdogs, or any crossbreeds of these breeds are used in our bloodlines.

Wolf genes are exclusively of American origin.

The Timber Shepherd ®

IMG_1117_edited.jpg

Our Timber Shepherd® bloodlines were created with our Blue Bay Shepherds.

The Timber Shepherd® has a percentage of wolf genes of 10 to 45% depending on the litters, the other part of the genotype being made up mainly of German Shepherd genes, of English and American origin.

Depending on the litter, some Timber Shepherds® also have a small contribution of Nordic breed genes (less than 25%)

Measurements of a male: 70 to 85cm at the withers or even more, for an average weight of 40kg

Measurements of a female: 65 to 74cm at the withers or even more, for a weight of 30kg

All colours are possible, regardless of the percentage of wolf genes.

The hair can be short or long.

Nordic Timber ®

Our Nordic Timber® lines have been developed by bringing at least 25% Nordic breed genes (malamute, husky, samoyed) into the Timber Shepherds® lines.

Nordic Timber® can have a percentage of wolf genes ranging from 10 to 45%.

It is a more powerful and heavier dog than the Timber Shepherd®, with a more massive bone structure and smaller ears.

Some Nordic Timber® lines have particularly long and thick hair.

Measurements of a male: 70 to 85cm at the withers or even more, for an average weight of 50kg

(we had maximums of 67kg)

Measurements of a female: 65 to 74cm at the withers or even more, for an average weight of 35 kg

All colours are possible, regardless of the percentage of wolf genes.

The hair can be short, long or very long, with a dense undercoat.

The Woolly Wolfhusky

B04A1578.JPG

Woolly wolfhuskies are real little teddy bears in appearance and character, with big fur, blue eyes and small ears.

Very sociable and full of energy, they will follow you on all your adventures, hikes, canicross, road trips, and will be perfectly suited to active families with young children, or sporty owners.

Very playful and at ease in all situations, they will make perfect family dogs.

We have carefully selected excellent bloodlines that are exclusively American and Canadian.

The frame is lighter and smaller than the Timbers Shepherds®

They have less than 15% wolf genes.

The colors available at the moment are silver sable, black smoke, liver smoke and liver sable.

The hair is long to very long, with a dense undercoat.

Character - distinctive features

Of all the questions one can ask, the most difficult to address is that which concerns character.

Indeed, a dog's character is not only linked to its genetic characteristics, but also largely to the environment in which it will evolve, the experiences it will have, and the education it will receive.

This is the rate we indicate as the 'inbreeding rate' for each litter.
(note that there may be slight variation in this rate for puppies from the same litter due to genetic recombination).

We know that a marriage between Silver and Jorah would produce puppies with a 2% inbreeding rate, a marriage between Lisa and Jed a rate of 5%, a marriage between Willow and Grizzly 1%...

It is a valuable tool for the breeder to refine the choice of marriages and selection (it is sometimes useful to make marriages with a higher inbreeding rate in order to establish sought-after characteristics) and also for the person who wishes to acquire a puppy with full knowledge of the facts and does not wish to end up with a dog that is inbred at a high level.

In all cases, the common characteristics will be:

Very kind, sensitive dogs, very close to their family and attached to each other.

They need presence and attention, a good dose of cuddles and are quite clingy.

They are often completely indifferent or suspicious of people they don't know. They are rarely guardians or protectors.

They are very playful and tolerant of all their peers regardless of size, and intraspecific interactions are very important to them.

They are very intelligent, especially in problem-solving, with marked emotionality and intuitive sensitivity.

Although calm and composed, very thoughtful, they need physical (large NT males of 60kg are obviously less inclined to sustained endurance activities) and cognitive activities to thrive, and can be destructive if they get bored (and their imagination for keeping themselves occupied knows no bounds....)

They are generally very clean and travel willingly by car.

They love the water, and their very webbed feet make them excellent swimmers.
They mature late, and education must always be done with gentleness and patience.

Socialization must be a daily and consistent process, as these dogs easily become fearful if they are not exposed to new situations and people from a young age. Indeed, any new encounter or environment is potentially dangerous for them, and they tend to avoid and analyze rather than confront. They need a reassuring and confident leader to guide them, but without brutality or pressure.

The observable differences with the increase in the percentage of wolf genes will essentially be: extremely marked intelligence, less servility (the dog understands very quickly, but obeys if it finds a personal or collective interest in what is asked of it), a more horizontal hierarchical functioning (cooperative hierarchy), greater sensitivity (true sponges for emotion), sometimes longer trust to acquire with its family but then a very strong fusion, a more marked mistrust towards people outside its family circle.
We can roughly summarize these differences by saying that wolf genes cause basic characteristics to be expressed in extremes (the dog is more intelligent, more sensitive, more emotional, etc.).

A very wolf-like dog placed in the wrong hands (inexperienced, ill-intentioned people who want both the submissive dog, the "wolf" to show off and the circus animal...) will be unhappy and the bond with its family will be of very poor quality or non-existent.
It is therefore essential to be honest when you present your family to us (other animals, schedules, skills, experience, the time you have to devote to them...) so that the dog goes to a family that suits him.

caractere_edited_edited.png

Our goal is to raise family dogs that can share your daily life with your children, other dogs, cats, horses… and do activities in interaction with you.

We have set a limit of 45% maximum wolf genes, because beyond that the animal is often more wolf than dog in its characteristics, and all undesirable behaviors are then more likely to occur (predation, running away, aggression towards animals foreign to its family, etc.).

Therefore, we are not looking for the lupoid hypertype; if it means having an animal that has to live 24/7 in a secure enclosure without sharing your family life, it is of no interest to us.

A wolfdog with 30 or 40% wolf genes is more than enough to satisfy the expectations of wolf enthusiasts who want to experience something different with an exceptional dog.
